This unusual extra large old basket was found at an estate sale in rural Eastern Iowa. It measures 15.5" x 26.5" x 11". The handles are about 7" apart at the place they are attached. I am not an expert on baskets, but I believe this one could be called oak split wood, diagonally woven. It is rectangular in shape, and very sturdy. The outer rim of the basket is made of thicker split oak with small round head tacks attaching it all around. A couple of the corners are slightly split, and there are a couple of places on the side where the strips are chipped. I don't know if this was originally a clothes basket, or a storage basket, or maybe even a place for a baby to sleep. I have no knowledge of its exact age or origin. There are no brand markings on it, but on one end the initials HLK with a 165 is handwritten, possibly in pencil.
